A Larger, More Functional Home That’s Perfect for Entertaining
These Ann Arbor homeowners had a dream of a pretty hefty home renovation project, and they knew that finding the right custom home builder was crucial. After meeting with various local businesses, they chose to work with Meadowlark Design+Build, and we couldn’t be more honored or thrilled.
The property was built about five years prior to our homeowners purchasing it on an existing home foundation. The homeowners immediately fell in love with the neighborhood and the home’s new finishes, but soon after moving in, they realized that the space was very poorly configured.
After meeting with our clients and discussing their goals, Meadowlark had a clear picture of their vision. The project would include a two-story addition and the creation of a second-floor bedroom, allowing for a larger, more functional kitchen downstairs. We found many ways to expand their home and give them more usable space where they could entertain family and friends.
Project Goals
Increase the home’s square footage while adding functionality.
These homeowners were laid back and a true delight to work with, but they were particular about details and knew exactly what they wanted and didn’t like – as they should be! Our team was ready to take on the project and provide them with a home that best suited their needs and lifestyle.
Second Floor Addition
- Build a two-story addition
- Create a spacious bedroom on the second floor
First Floor Updates
- Convert the old kitchen into a dining room.
- Remodel the basement space (this area was previously damaged in a flood).
- Replace kitchen cabinets with custom cabinetry from Meadowlark.
- Create custom cabinetry for the pantry, mudroom, and living room.
- Build a kitchen island with quartz countertops to allow for more space for entertaining and gathering.

- “Galveston” grey base cabinets in the kitchen and pantry
- “Nordic” white upper wall cabinets kitchen, plus for the desk, mudroom, and media cabinet in the living room

At the end of the project, the homeowners were thrilled with the results. They were left with a new and improved home that gave them ample space for their lifestyle, provided ample storage and functionality, and exuded the perfect vibe for entertaining friends and family.
