A Fresh Space Within Familiar Walls
The Vision
Crafting a Fresh Space Within Familiar Walls
Our homeowners had a deep-rooted love for their current neighborhood and home and had no intentions of moving, but they were craving something new. Their house needed some significant updates to reflect their evolving lifestyle. So they created a new vision for their home, all within the walls of their current cherished house.
They wanted a fresh look for the exterior, including updated paint, new windows, and a covered porch to shelter people as they enter and a safe place for those all-too-frequent package deliveries.
Plus, the interior required some enhancements – both for functionality and style. As avid fitness enthusiasts, they envisioned a dedicated workout area on the main floor. They wanted to add a foyer that also acts as a mudroom, so there was a proper place for people to come and go and conveniently store coats and shoes.
The vision was to modernize our homeowners' space while keeping the character of their current home intact. After nailing down a plan for these additions and alterations, the Meadowlark Design+Build team was ready to get to work.
Project Goals
An Exterior Facelift With Interior Enhancements
Following discussions and meetings with our homeowners, our team thoroughly understood their aspirations for this project. We brought together a stellar team of designers and contractors, created a plan, and got down to business.
Interior Upgrades and Additions:
- Exercise Room:
- Update floors, frames, and trim
- Install recessed lighting
- Outlets for fans to keep cool while working out
- Mudroom:
- New tiles and framework around the door and windows
- Storage space for shoes and clothing
- Installation of outlets
Exterior Updates and Renovations:
- Addition of 100 square feet onto the front of the home
- Updated paint and color scheme to improve the overall aesthetic and curb appeal of the home
- New windows with the same character as the originals
- A covered porch with a wood ceiling, metal roof, and railing for added safety
- Installation of a level 2 EV charger on the driveway.
- Outdoor electrical outlets near the front door for exterior lighting, holiday decorations, etc.
Project Challenges
When we were first introduced to the home, our team immediately took note of the limited space available. With only around 100 square feet for expansion at the front of the house, our team navigated the intricate puzzle of optimizing this constrained space. This addition became pivotal, reshaping the dynamics of the main floor to accommodate the exercise area, mudroom, and living room.
On the exterior of the home, the original structure lacked dimensionality and appeared relatively flat. Plus, they didn’t have an entrance or mudroom space to greet guests into their home without being confronted with the stairway! They wanted an easy drop point where they, family, and friends could leave their belongings upon entering the house.
Our team knew we had to address these issues, so we orchestrated a transformation that involved extending the living room window and introducing a porch. These enhancements rejuvenated the curb appeal and amplified functionality, aligning with the homeowners' desire for a more welcoming and versatile exterior.

Inside, the changes reflect their lifestyle and practical needs perfectly. The new workout spot is inviting and motivating, while the new foyer and mudroom, decked out with updated tiles and handy outlets, are functional, stylish, and give additional breathing room.
At the end of this project, we didn’t just fix up a house – we helped our homeowners make a statement about what matters most to them. Now, they have a place that’s not just a house, but somewhere they can call home that’s a reflection of them.
