Exterior Facelifts We Love – Chapter 2

Some call it an update to the curb appeal, others call it an exterior facelift and then there are times when all you can say is OMG!

This project falls into the latter category and we aren’t the only ones who agree. Houzz – a platform for all things related to home design – just did a feature on another amazing Meadowlark exterior project, and this one hits really close to home (and to our hearts) as it is the home of our very own Melissa Kennedy.

Melissa and her husband Tommy bought this home in 2012. The home needed interior updates right away so they quickly remodeled the first floor to make the spaces work better for their growing family. Updates to the bedrooms and bathrooms followed a few years later and then Phase 3 was updating the dark, uninviting exterior to improve not only the curb appeal and the overall architectural form, but also to make the exterior spaces work better for their three young boys and for entertaining friends and family.

The home was dark and imposing. Add to that the overgrown landscaping and LOTS of poison ivy and the result is a home that is anything but welcoming. The home sits atop a small hill and was hidden behind large trees that took over the exterior of the home. Melissa wanted to open the home and the lot to make it lighter and not as scary to those approaching.

While the home’s lot is large (over an acre), unfortunately it backs onto a busy road, thus making the backyard space not as enticing for entertaining. The one redeeming factor –  the home placement is pushed towards the back of the lot leaving a large front yard that is at the end of a very quiet cut-de-sac. This creates the perfect front yard space for kids and and parents alike.

Hardie Cement Fiber siding panels mixed with stained cedar tongue and groove vertical siding add interest and define the unique architectural forms of this contemporary home. Hardscape and softscape landscaping features create the perfect frame to complete the contemporary aesthetic.

Could you use an exterior update to your home? We’d love to start a conversation.
